本书语言浅显易懂，内容实用，举例具体。从内容来看，本书从宏观和微观地角度论述了教学中的策略问题，从总的教学原则到一般的教学步骤，进而到具体的教学技巧，层层扩展，提供了大量的各种教学原则下的具体的教学策略，具有较强的可操作和实用性，其中不但从宏观对一些运用于所有课堂的组织策略，激励策略，提问策略和课堂评估策略等普遍性教学策略展开了详尽的介绍，而且从微观层面对具体的词汇、语法、阅读、听说和写作课的只适合于某特定目标和具体内容的具体性教学策略也做了具体阐述。看完书后，我感觉自己对以往一些教学中的做法有了一个清晰明确的认识，同时，也能更轻松，更灵活地运用各种策略来进行课堂教学。

读完本书让我羞愧于自己在教学理论和策略方面知识的匮乏同时，更让我明白英语教学的成功应体现在“培养学习者在真实的情景中有效使用英语的能力”，反思自己以前的教学，好多都是自己一些粗浅的经验积累，在教学中很多时候只是随心教学，所以一直以来，自己成熟稳定教学风格形成方面没有取得重大突破，而阅读此书，让我了解了许多有理论支持的教学方法。如：语法翻译法、直接教学法、认知法、自然法、社团教学法、沉默教学法、全身反应法、暗示教学法。从书中我悟到了想成为一名优秀的教师必须充分认识到“教必有法”的原则性和“教无定法”的灵活性特点之间的统一关系。教师不应拘于一法一策，囿于一方一圆，而是要因地制宜，因材施教，将各类方法加以组合和调配，在吸收、借鉴已有教学方法的基础上，创造性地发挥，逐步形成富有教师个人特色的教学风格。

书中的好多观点让我深受启发：呈现学习任务时，应当向学习者描述任务中的问题发生的物理背景、组织和社会文化背景。并且，问题的呈现必然是有趣的或吸引人的，目的是引导学习者的积极参与。
